JINEN brings Japanese families into global transactions, and international capital and companies into Japan.

We work through a network of family offices and investors in Japan, the U.S. and Asia, and with specialists in each field, so that families and companies on both sides can transact with confidence. Our founding partners’ families invest alongside the families we work with.

Business

U.S. late-stage co-investment

Secondary and late-stage positions in leading U.S. private companies. These allocations come to us as Japanese founding families: the companies want a long-term shareholder who brings trust, corporate relationships and a path into the Japanese market, not only capital. Our founding partners’ families often invest in the same rounds, and the allocation is shared with families and investors outside Japan.

Real estate and data center sites

Data center sites, off-market commercial buildings, hotels and former factory land in Greater Tokyo, and residences, townhouses and ryokan in Tokyo, Kyoto, Niseko and Karuizawa, from a single asset to a portfolio. Few of these assets ever reach the market. The families holding them, often planning for inheritance and succession, do not want to sell publicly, and offer them to JINEN privately because they know us. Our partner’s family has held and managed real estate for generations, and JINEN works through those relationships.

Japan market entry

We bring international companies into Japan and run their first year: partners, first customers, hiring, licensing and launch. We work with Ultra Super New, the Tokyo agency whose clients include Red Bull, Nike, Salesforce, Adobe and Duolingo.

Japanese art and watches

Japan is one of the world’s deepest secondary markets for art and fine watches. We source works from Edo-period masters to modern nihonga, and rare and vintage timepieces, from Japanese collectors and dealers, and place them privately or through the auction houses. Our chairman is the tenth generation of the house of Maruyama Ōkyo, the eighteenth-century Kyoto painter regarded as the father of modern Japanese painting.
